Anyone who seeks the best yoga schools in India must know that the institute he/she is going to play a lot of emphasis on breathing. Breathing properly and focusing attention on it holds a lot of importance in yoga.
Unspoken message
There is an unspoken message constantly floating in the world around us. This message is all about living and loving and entails everything we need to know. All we need to do is hear this message. When our attention is constantly caught up in the external and internal noise, it’s impossible for us to hear this message, or even acknowledge its presence.
Focus on breathing
It’s for this purpose that we must focus on our breathing, so as to establish an internal quiet space.
By constantly concentrating on your breath’s sensation and presence, one breath at a time, you’d be able to divert your mind away from all the noise, and focus it on the present moment. This would automatically bring some steadiness and stillness to your mind.
Achieving the true meditative state
Eventually, when you’re able to focus 100% of your attention on your breath (which can take a long time, sometimes even years – and hence must be approached with patience and a loving curiosity), you’d achieve a true meditative state where there’ll only be your breath. Nothing else. And within the true and complete knowledge of your breath would lie the peace and sweetness of life, in its absolute pure form.
Only one example
Please know, breath is just one example of concentration tool; there are many others. It’s entirely up to you to figure one that works best for you, depending on your nature.
Once you develop such concentration with a playful and loving attitude, you’d also develop a listening ability that goes far beyond what can be heard by your ears. It’s an inner listening that’d enable you to hear and experience life’s message, not just in every breath you take, but in everything that exists around you.
