India Travel Vaccination

Health & Vaccination Guidelines
for the guests visiting AyurYoga Eco-Ashram

Vaccination is a personal choice for each guest. We cannot officially recommend any specific vaccines
or advise on what is required. Each guest should make their own decision based on personal health,
travel plans, and consultation with a healthcare provider.

Vaccines and Health Risks in Our Area

From our experience, there is generally no need for additional vaccines to stay at our ashram.
The contagious diseases listed on the CDC website (link below) are not common in our region.

Compared to other parts of India, mosquito-related illnesses are minimal.
Our ashram is located in open spaces with ample wind, and the nearby river is constantly flowing,
which reduces stagnant water where mosquitoes could breed.

All our buildings are equipped with mosquito nets on the windows to keep insects out of guest rooms.
We also offer herbal anti-mosquito oils at the ashram boutique as an extra precaution.
Guests are encouraged to bring their preferred herbal mosquito repellents.
Please avoid sprays or oils with strong fragrances, as they are not suitable for yoga classes,
especially those involving pranayama and other breathing practices.

If you plan to travel to areas with high mosquito activity—such as trekking in jungles or rural regions during
the monsoon season—you may need to consider anti-malaria tablets or vaccines.
For most areas in India, including our ashram, the risk is very low.

India is a large country with a population of over 1.4 billion, so occasional disease-related
news headlines do not reflect conditions everywhere.

Water Safety

  • Drinking and cooking water at the ashram comes from our
RO (Reverse Osmosis) filtered system, ensuring it is safe and clean.
  • Bathroom water comes from our own grounds and is suitable for bathing.
We recommend using RO filtered water for drinking and brushing teeth.

General Travel Precautions

Even though staying at the ashram is low-risk, standard health precautions are important when
traveling in India, before or after your retreat.

  • Wash hands regularly with soap, especially before meals.
  • Avoid ice in drinks if the water source is uncertain.
  • Eat freshly cooked food whenever possible.
  • Peel fruits if you are unsure of cleanliness.
  • Be cautious with street food, raw salads, and unwashed fruits on your day-trips.

Special Vaccinations to Consider

We recommend reviewing the CDC website (link below) to make informed decisions about vaccinations.
Please pay special attention to Yellow Fever vaccination requirements
for travelers who have visited certain countries in Africa or South America.

Guests with pre-existing medical conditions, immunocompromised individuals,
or pregnant travelers should consult their healthcare provider for personalized advice.

Common Minor Issues and Remedies

While most guests have a healthy and comfortable stay, it is helpful to be aware of minor issues
that can occasionally occur:

  • Mild stomach upset: Often due to changes in food or climate.
Stick to cooked meals and drink plenty of RO filtered water.
  • Mosquito bites: Apply herbal oils, aloe vera gel, or soothing creams.
    Avoid scratching.
  • Heat or sun discomfort: Wear light clothing, use sunscreen,
    and stay hydrated.
  • Jet lag or travel fatigue: Rest well, hydrate, and ease into yoga practice.
  • Minor cuts or scrapes: Clean with antiseptic and keep covered.
First aid support is available for minor care.

Personal Health Responsibility

Ultimately, maintaining health during your travels depends on personal responsibility and preparation.
Practicing good hygiene, being mindful of food and water safety, and taking reasonable precautions
will help ensure a safe, comfortable, and enriching retreat experience at AyurYoga Ashram.

We are fortunate to have more than two decades of experience with offering retreats for International guests
and two doctors-in-residece at the AyurYoga Eco-Ashram.

Finally, we try our best to keep our facilities and food to the utmost hygiene allowed with our limited budget of $20 to $30/day for room and food.
