Prakriti, Vikriti & Food During Treatment
Understanding the Ayurvedic Healing Process at AyurYoga Eco-Ashram
At AyurYoga Eco-Ashram, we welcome guests from all over the world who come with a genuine interest in Ayurveda and natural healing. Many arrive already familiar with the concept of Prakriti (one’s natural constitution) and naturally expect their meals to be customized according to it.
While this understanding is valuable, there is a common misunderstanding about how Ayurvedic food therapy works during an active treatment and detox program. This page is meant to gently clarify that process.
🌿 Prakriti Is Your Nature — Vikriti Is What We Heal
- Prakriti is the body’s original constitution at birth
- Vikriti is the present state of imbalance, illness, or dysfunction
Ayurvedic treatment is designed primarily to correct Vikriti. Most guests who arrive for treatment are not in their natural balanced state — they are experiencing accumulated imbalances that may have developed over many years.
Healing begins by balancing Vikriti. Prakriti reveals itself naturally once balance is restored.
🩺 Why Food Based Only on Prakriti Is Not Ideal During Treatment
During treatment, food must support:
- Detoxification
- Tissue repair
- Digestive strength
- Stability of mind and body
This requires responding to the current condition, not just the original constitution.
🥣 Why the Ashram Serves a General Healing Diet
Instead of highly individualized daily menus, AyurYoga provides a carefully designed general healing diet that is:
- Simple, sattvic, and nourishing
- Easy to digest
- Supportive of detox and internal cleansing
- Balancing for all three doshas
- Aligned with Ayurvedic medicines and therapies
👩⚕️ Daily Doctor Consultations & Individual Adjustments
Our Ayurveda doctors meet with each guest daily to observe digestion, review symptoms, track progress, and guide food choices.
Doctors may recommend:
- Warm kitchari instead of fruits or salads
- Avoiding raw or heavy foods
- Reducing quantity even if buffet offers more
- Skipping foods that do not support the current stage of healing
🌼 Special Care During Detox Phases
During deeper detox and Panchakarma phases, doctors coordinate directly with the kitchen to provide:
- Very light kitchari
- Ganji (rice gruel)
- Easily digestible soups and broths
Heavier vegetables and regular guest meals are avoided during this time to support deeper cleansing and recovery.
📚 Personalized Guidance for Life After Treatment
Before guests return home, our doctors provide personalized guidance on:
- Prakriti and Vikriti
- Suitable foods and meal timing
- Seasonal adjustments
- Lifestyle practices for long-term balance
⚠️ A Gentle Note for Our Guests
We kindly ask guests to avoid sharing personal theories or strong opinions about Ayurveda with fellow guests. Some visitors feel they know Ayurveda deeply and may unintentionally confuse others.
Please remember: our doctors have decades of clinical experience. If you have any doubt or curiosity, we warmly encourage you to ask your doctor for clarification. Trust and communication are essential parts of healing.
