Basics of Practicing Mouna

16 Jun

Author : AyurYoga Eco Ashram

It has become increasingly important today to find some time to separate ourselves from the daily grind that we’re subjected to these days.

What is Mouna?

The practice of yoga and meditation allows you to remove yourself from all the noise, and be really quiet. Referred to as Mouna or silence, although it means staying quiet, at a deeper level it implies creating space on the inside while staying ‘quiet and still’ externally.

No, you’re not expected to move and settle by the ocean, and refrain from any verbal contact, constantly thinking about things you need to do in the future, and get caught up in mental noise (while the ocean outside stays quiet)!

Rather it means distancing yourself from the noise, and getting to know yourself intimately, one breath at a time; cultivating the ability to see things as they are, rather than through the filter of your mental-conditioning.

Importance of yoga and meditation retreat

However, most of the times we get so caught up in the noise in that it seems impossible to focus on the present moment. This is where an Indian spiritual retreat can come to your rescue. You must opt for such a wellness retreat at least once a year, and what better place to retreat to than India!

Opting for such a yoga or meditation retreat would really help you to retreat from the external noise, and look deep within. You would be able to clearly see how so much of your attention is taken away by your preconceived notions, stories and judgements.

Such wellness retreat would also allow you to accept guidance, techniques and suggestions from trusted teachers on how you should realign your mental and energy systems, develop the ability of Mouna, and become more present!
